Re-evaluation
About a year ago I sat down with Crystal and wrote out my life goals. I’m having a hell of a rough month, so I decided to re-read them to give me some hope. I thought I’d share.
2 year goals (Age 30-32)
- May: Fix roof. Done!
- September: Furnish backyard for fall. Yeah, missed that one, but working on it.
- Cheer Crystal on for a marathon! Done!
- Get a bachelor’s degree. OMG almost there, and so happy about it.
- Pay off credit card debt. Again, progress.
- Take a one week camping and hiking trip with Crystal. Wow, I’d forgot about this one. I’d still like to do this.
- Fit comfortably in a 32 waistband again for the rest of my life. This is just funny. No progress at all.
- Learn Scheme (a programming language.) Depending on your definition of learn, yes.
- Contribute to an open source project Oh, hell yes. All over this.
5 year goals (Age 30-35)
- Take a long (1 month+) trip with Crystal to Asia.
- Write a technical book. Failed on this once; have more ideas.
10 year goals (Age 30-40)
- Get a master’s degree. Applying to UNC and NCSU for fall 2009.
20 year goals (Age 30-50)
- Teach school. Actually, maybe close. Durham Tech needs people to teach HTML, CSS, and PHP. They need people bad enough that they’ll accept teachers with a bachelor’s degree and industry experience. I’m applying after I graduate.
- Retire with financial security.
I’m kind of surprised at my progress. Cool. I’m going to write a new set and see what happens.
